If you are based in the Carolinas, we also encourage you to join the Carolina Association of Translators and Interpreters. This active organization welcomes your membership and provides many activities and opportunities for getting to know others active in the field. Another important organization for professional translators and interpreters is the American Translators Association. This is a nationwide organization of professionals that offers its members many benefits, including translator certification in many languages.

Did You Know?

  • Chinese has several prominent dialects and two different writing systems.

    Written language:

    • Simplified characters are used in the People's Republic of China.
    • Traditional characters are used in Taiwan, Singapore, and other Chinese-speaking areas.

    Spoken language:

    • Mandarin Chinese is the official dialect of the PRC and is spoken in northern China and in Taiwan and Singapore.
    • Cantonese is spoken in Shanghai, along the southern coast of China and in Hong Kong.
