1. Identifying the type of translation

When preparing for translation, you should first identify the type of translation you require. A few of the most common types of translation are described below.

• 1.1Translation “for information only”
  "For information only" translations require a high attention to technical accuracy, but little or no attention to typesetting or printing.
• 1.2Translation for publication
  Presentation of the translated material is more important when translating for publications.
• 1.3Software localization
  Software translation requires a large amount of planning due to the complexities of computer-user interaction.
• 1.4Advertising copy
  Translating copy for advertisements can be tricky because of cultural differences.
